3 Reasons To Choose A Career As An HVAC Technician

Posted on: 4 February 2019

Have you been thinking about your career path? Do you wish that you could find a career that isn't difficult to get into but that also pays well? If you're like many people, you may have been told that your career prospects are limited to retail or fast food. But this isn't necessarily true. Learning a trade is a perfectly viable option and might be just what you've been looking for. In particular, you might be interested in becoming an HVAC technician. Some of the reasons why you might be interested in this route include:

Immediate employment: When you pursue a career that requires a college degree, you have to pay for your schooling first before you can even try to get a job in your chosen field. But when you seek HVAC certification, this isn't the case. You will first typically find an employer to hire you. This employer will sponsor you and provide training to help you with your goal of obtaining certification. The expectation is that you will continue to work for this employer for a certain amount of time after you receive your certification. The required amount of time can vary but it is typically a couple of years.

Fast credentials: A college degree that's worth something can take four years or more to finish. In that time, the job market may have shifted and your chosen degree is not worth what it was 4 years ago. Contrast that with getting HVAC certification. In as little as 6 months, you could be fully certified and working as a full-time HVAC technician. If you dislike even the thought of going back to school, being able to have a new career in less than a year can be a powerful incentive for you to stick with the program anyway and to get your certificate.

In-demand: More and more people are installing HVAC units and the units themselves are becoming more complex. This means that there is a rising demand for people who have obtained their HVAC certification and who know how to install and repair the units. Unlike some other fields, this growing demands means that you won't have to compete with as many people when you're trying to find a new job. Should you decide to move to a new city, your certification could get you a new job in a matter of weeks instead of possibly spending months trying to find something.
